The recent tragic incident of cruelty to a 14-year-old housemaid in Islamabad by the owners is proof that child domestic labor is dangerous for children: says Babar Hashmi Chairman Lifesavors
MULTAN: Chairman of Life Savors, the representative organization of the Child Rights Protection Network, Babar Hashmi says that the recent tragic incident of cruelty to a 14-year-old housemaid in Islamabad by the owners is proof that child domestic labor is dangerous for children. The federal and provincial governments need to take immediate legislative and administrative steps to effectively outlaw it. Issues related to child protection should be the top priority of all political parties. The Child Rights Protection Network strongly condemns this brutal incident and calls for effective legislation to prevent children from entering domestic labor. The Punjab Domestic Workers Act has not been successful in taking legal action against those employing children as domestic workers, so there is a need to legislate child protection against domestic child labor (which is an important and sensitive issue of child protection). The focus should be on solving through.

To ensure the observance of children's rights, the government should increase the relevant budget. Rules should be made to implement the existing laws and resources should be provided. These views were expressed by Babar Hashmi, the representative organization of the Child Rights Protection Network, Chairman of Life Savors Multan, during a meeting of the local civil society.
During the meeting, it was reiterated that all civil society organizations will work together to ensure the protection of children's rights. He clarified that Child Rights Protection Network Punjab is the only network of representative NGOs from each district, which has its roots up to the grass root level. This network will continue to play its full role to ensure the protection of children's rights through various programs at the urban and rural levels. The district body of the Child Rights Protection Network demanded the government make effective legislation to prevent child marriage and fix the age limit of the girl child at 18 years. Strict penalties should be prescribed in case of violation.
Along with the rules for effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, financial resources should also be ensured in this regard. Under no circumstances should children below 18 years of age be allowed to work at the household level. Resources should be immediately provided to implement the law on free and compulsory education so that every child enters school and is equipped with a good education. It should be remembered that Good Thinkers Organization, the founding organization of the Child Rights Protection Network, is calling a provincial conference soon in this regard so that all NGOs working for the protection of children's rights throughout the province can play their full role in the protection and development of children's rights with collective thinking and passion under a common plan of action.
